The National Forum Briefs Participants at 2009 Michigan Governor's Education Summit
At the 2009 Michigan Governor's Education Summit on April 28, 2009, The National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good provided a leading role in informing discussions about higher education in Michigan. Summmit speakers included Governor Jennifer Granholm, Lt. Governer John Cherry, and Mike Flanagan, Michigan's Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The National Forum team compiled data from a variety of trusted sources to develop key educational indicators germane to the state of higher education in Michigan. The briefing materials for the Governor's Education Summit feature a diverse set of perfomance indicators.
Educational attainment of Michigan residents
College participation rates of Michigan residents
Income and unemployment data of Michigan residents
Academic achievement of Michigan high school students
Tuition rates at Michigan public higher education institutions
To help contextualize the discussion of these educational indicators, the National Forum team compared these figures to national averages, as well as averages for the Great Lakes region and for the top five states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Colorado) in terms of educational attainment (Associates Degree and higher).
We encourage you to download and review the briefing materials from the Summit; we have presented a selection of materials below.
